Free CC0 pixel-art tileset generator

CrunchyTile makes pixel-art tilesets for top-down and side-scrolling games, in your browser. Pick a preset or press Randomize, change the palette, texture and shape, and export a set that is ready to paint with: the full 47-tile blob set for top-down terrain, and ground with slopes, one-way platforms and collision for platformers. It also draws scrolling walls and floors, parallax backgrounds, skylines, buildings and towns, interiors, world maps and objects.

It is made for hobbyist game developers: people with a game to finish who don't have the time to become a pixel artist too. For Godot 4 an export is a TileSet with the terrains already set up, so Godot's own autotiler picks the right tile in every cell. For Unity, a folder builds a Rule Tile on import. For any other engine there is the PNG sheet and a JSON sidecar describing every tile.

Every tile is drawn by code from seeded shapes and colour ramps: no generative AI, no samples and no bundled art, and nothing you make leaves your machine. Everything CrunchyTile makes for you is CC0: use it in any game, commercial included, with no attribution. Sprites you import yourself keep their own licence.

The web version is free and has every feature. The desktop app on itch.io ($6, Windows and Linux) adds workflow around the same art: it saves your designs straight into your game's folder, updates them in place, and keeps a Library of everything you saved.

Questions

Is CrunchyTile free for commercial use?

Yes. Everything CrunchyTile makes for you is CC0, which puts it in the public domain: use it in commercial games, edit it and ship it, with no attribution and no royalties. The web version is free and has every feature.

Does CrunchyTile use AI?

No. Every tile, texture and object is drawn by hand-written code from seeded shapes and colour ramps. There is no generative AI in what it makes, and no sampled or bundled art.

Does it work with Godot?

Yes. A Godot 4 export is a TileSet (.tres) with the terrains set up, so Godot's own autotiler picks the right tile in every cell, and side-view sets carry their collision. Objects, parallax layers and sample maps come as ready scenes. Every Godot export is checked by loading it into a real headless Godot.

Does it work with Unity?

Yes. The Unity export is a folder for your Assets whose editor script builds a ready-to-paint Rule Tile (2D Tilemap Extras, Unity 2022.3 LTS or Unity 6) on import, with variants, slopes, one-way platforms and animation. Unity creates every asset itself.

What size are the tiles, and what else can I export?

Tiles are 32 by 32 pixels. The sheet is an indexed PNG, and the Godot export also carries a JSON sidecar describing every tile, for GameMaker or your own engine. Objects can also be saved as Aseprite files, switched on in Settings.
